2018-2019 MathLeague Contest Schedule

Art of Doing Math hosts MathLeague’s official monthly contests in northern Nevada and specifically in the greater Reno, Sparks, and Lake Tahoe region. MathLeague is the largest competitive math organization for elementary, middle, and high school students in the United States with over 200 competitions involving over 20,000 students each year. MathLeague Elementary School contests lead to MathLeague’s State Championship in April or May, then MathLeague’s National Championship in June. MathLeague Middle School Contests lead to the (INTER)2 SECT championship in April.

Below are the basic who, what, where, when, and how details for our official MathLeague contests:

Who. MathLeague Elementary contests are for grades 3-6 and covers math typical taught through 6th grade. Second graders are invited to compete with 3rd graders; 6th graders can and should compete in both elementary and middle school contests. MathLeague Middle school contests are for grades 6 through 8 and covers math typically taught through 8th grade. Fifth graders are invited to complete with 6th graders.

How. Students may register and compete individually or may organize teams from their schools. Schools may host teams. Contests involve a “Team Round” where up to four students from each school compete as a team (or squad). Schools can host unlimited teams or squads of up to four students each. A school team overall, for example, might have 28 students competing as the school team and be organized into seven four-student teams or squads on behalf of their school for the Team Round.

What. MathLeague elementary school contests involve three individual tests—Number Sense, Sprint, Target, and Team tests. Middle school contsts involve Sprint, Target, and Team tests, plus a Countdown Round

Costs. Individually, the cost is $15 each in advance or $20 at the door. When students sign up for both the elementary and middle school contests, typically 5th and 6th graders, the second contest is then just $10 in advance or $15 at the door. For group rates, please visit our Group Rate page.

Register. Please register for each contest via the links below.

When. Contests are monthly. Check-in is 4 p.m., contest starts at 4:30 p.m., break at 7:00 p.m., and awards at 7:30 p.m. As these are often school nights, everyone should be out the door by 8:00 p.m.

Where. Contests will be held at the Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Avenue, Sparks, Nevada.
